Hi everybody,

Here’s the TL;DR: The media team that’s behind so much of my content is taking on more creators!

They’ll be offering the same services they do for me: turning an expert’s ideas into scalable, shareable lessons that grow your business. They’ve quietly been doing this for a couple of clients already, and it’s going so well that they’re leaning in to take on more clients.

They’re calling themselves Union Media.

If you are an expert in your field, have a passion for teaching, see the power of building an audience, and have a proven business model, BUT you don’t have expertise in how to create compelling social content, and you want to delegate the grunt work to smart people, let’s talk.

My ask: if you know someone who might be interested, send them this link to get in touch with the team (or reply to this email).

The Amazon playbook: cost center into profit center

How did this come together? There are parts of creating content that I love, and parts that I don’t.

I like getting inspired, hitting record, and finding the teachable moments. When I learn something extraordinary, I want to share it with others.

I don’t like working on finishing touches, figuring out how to package my ideas, or doing all the legwork to get it out there.

So I built a content team. It allowed me to do more of what I love, less of what I don’t, and reach more people with my teaching than I could have on my own. And along the way, we’ve learned how to do newsletters, video, X, LinkedIn — all incredibly well.

Now these folks want to grow the business to be bigger than just me. I’m cool with that!

So I took a page out of the Amazon playbook: first, build something you need, then sell the infrastructure to other people outside of your internal customers.

They do this better than anyone else:

  • Warehouse and delivery services. FBA (Fulfilled By Amazon) will bring in over $100B this year alone.

  • Search optimization for users. Today, Amazon makes $40B / year selling top search result slots.

  • And, of course, AWS. The web infrastructure they built for themselves now props up half the internet (and will make them over $120B this year).

This team is why I’m getting thousands of YouTube subscribers every week, hosting monthly lectures with hundreds of people at each one, and running a profitable podcast from just one hour a week of riffing about business listings. (Not to mention writing this newsletter.)

If you'd like to see some case studies and statistics, check out the site they’ve put together here.

And if you know someone who would be a good fit, send them our way!

3 things from this week

  • Appetizer: On the pod this week, we looked at a “cash cow” business with “longstanding client relationships”... but it’s only 5 years old. This one was a good lesson in reading between the lines.

  • Main: Interesting comment on my LinkedIn from a guy who worked with the founder of Chick-fil-A. Read the rest of their recipe for success here.

  • Dessert: Prime is gross as hell.

Thanks,

Michael

P.S. Had a great lecture with Connor Groce about all things franchising on Friday. If you want that recording, or to see any of my past lectures, they’re all available here.
